Cubicorn Games

New Discord Server

by Dustin on February 1st, 2023

We've had a lot going on recently and are in the process of spinning up Down the Drain changes, diving all the way back into working on Super Cucumber and even getting the ball rolling on a few more collaborative projects.

One way we want to make our games more accessible in the future as they are being made and find projects from other small developers to check out is our new Game Testing Discord Server. There's not much going on in there yet, but we plan to share in-progress builds of our games going forward there in the months to come. If you'd like to help us test our games, or are working on projects you'd like someone else to check out, come join us there and give us a shout!

Game Sale and Youmacon Plans

by Dustin on October 20th, 2022

Just wanted to get a quick update out there with some exciting developments for us over the next few weeks. Down the Drain is on sale on Steam for the next 7 days as part of Roguelike Celebration. If you’d like to give us some support at a pretty solid price, there’s never been a better time!

We’re also extremely excited to join a bunch of fellow indie devs in Michigan at Youmacon this year for the first time since 2019. The show runs from November 3-6 at The Huntington Place (formerly Cobo) in downtown Detroit. If you want to check out some cool indie games or just have a generally fun weekend nerding it up, we’d definitely recommend coming down that weekend.

We still have updates to Down the Drain that will be coming soonish, and we’re working on a bunch of stuff for Super Cucumber that will start to come online over the next few months. We can’t wait to share more in the future, but until then, stay safe out there, and keep an eye out for more updates soon.

Release Week, GDEX Info

by Dustin on June 7th, 2022

These last few months have been a blur, but with an intense week ahead of us, we are a few days away from getting Down the Drain across the finish line to release. With that in mind I wanted to take a second to clarify what we'll be up to over the next few days.

Down the Drain will be live on Steam on June 9th, 2022. This is a few days later than originally planned, but our final approval from Valve took just a tiny bit longer than we were expecting.

Luckily that still lines up perfectly with the rest of our week, since we’ll be on the GDEX show floor on launch day showing the finished game for the first time! If you find yourself in Columbus Ohio any time this weekend, we'll be at Table 8 in the ISE area (collectively booth 320), so it should be a great time!

We'll have other news on future development plans in the weeks to come, but the next few days are going to be all launch prep and travel for us. Stay safe out there, and if you get to try Down the Drain this weekend, please leave us a review on Steam. We'd love to hear what you think!

Down the Drain Release Announcement

by Dustin on April 27th, 2022

We've been working crazy hard recently at Cubicorn Games HQ, but I can finally say that we will be releasing one of our video games in the very near future.

In early June, Down the Drain will finally be released for PC on Itch.Io and Steam. We have plenty of details in our latest podcast, and another longer post we put up on our Kickstarter page from the campaign we ran years ago, so feel free to check those out for more info.

We're also going to be showing Down the Drain at the GDEX game convention from June 9th to June 12th, so if you're in the Midwest and interested in coming out to a gaming event, drive down and check it out.

We'll be hard at work over the next few weeks while we keep on trucking along before release, so sit tight, stay tuned, and we'll have more updated to share on all the stuff we're working on soon.

Fresh Progress and New Projects!

by Dustin on November 15th, 2021

Hello everyone! This year has managed to feet even more temporally unstable here are Cubicorn headquarters than 2020 did. Parts of it have flown by, a few points have felt sluggish as hell, and things are somehow more stable yet still as unsettled as they’ve been in recent memory.

That mental time dilatation is at least part of why I always fall behind on providing consistent updates, but I assure you we’ve been working on lots of stuff behind the scenes. Let’s go over some of them now!

First of all, we’ve come a long way toward finally launching a damn video game. Down the Drain is nearly feature complete, and will release in 2022 if it takes the last breath from my lungs to puff it out into being. Super Cucumber has been on soft hiatus for a bit, bit we are going to get right back into it once we get DtD out the door on PC.

But that’s not all we’ve been up to! I’ve done something I’ve wanted to try for the last few years and finally started a YouTube channel. We’ve obviously got one of those already, but that channel is dedicated to info on our game projects and archives of development and long play live streams. This new one is more of a solo project for me, and will eventual feature video essays on games, movies history, and anything else that I feel strongly enough about to take a deep dive on. There are a couple of things I’ve worked really hard on going up there soon, so if you want a look at one of the many things I’ve been up to recently, go check it out.

Finally, we are extremely early in working on a tabletop game project that should look very familiar to anyone who remembers some of our live streaming activity around 2016. It’s yet another thing I’ve worked on in little burst for years, and I’m hopeful we’ll eventually make it a reality. I can at least promise that when we have more to say on that, there will be a huge update on this very website covering all the major details. If you like weird old card games but hate booster packs, stay tuned for eventual news!

That about sums up all of our major updates for the moment. 2021 has felt like a year where we’ve accomplished a ton while still not quite crossing the finish line on most of our major projects. Your patience with us has been invaluable as we soldier on through day jobs and personal issue and the unrelenting waves of highly transmissible disease.

There are no words sufficient to describe how valuable all the support we’ve ever gotten has been to us. Until next time, thank you some much for sharing your limited time and attention, and we’ll hopefully have more exciting updates in the very near future.

Charity Stream This Weekend!

by Dustin on October 16th, 2020

Hey out there in internet land. This year has been crazy for all of us. It's been filled with pain and loss across the spectrum of human experience. I don't think anyone has been spared from at least some level of mental distress this year, so we want to take a moment to try and give a little back to help some of us who are in need.

On Saturday, October 17th (tomorrow as of this posting) we'll be running a charity livestream from 12PM-8PM EST in support of the National Eating Disorders Association. We will always support anyone living with any mental health disorder, but in these trying times more people than ever are struggling with some sort of mental health issue.

If you want to just hang out and be silly with us, We'll be drawing stuff, playing Rock Band (with Real Drums!) and doing a few other fun things throughout the day. If you're feeling charitable, or just need to chill with some well meaning nerds, check out the campaign, and we'll see you tomorrow!
